Last Year, New Year.
So, generally, Jews have a different New Year. We celebrate it in September and it's like 5,000 something (we're in the future!) But, just like any American Jew, I also celebrate this New Year, and, just to go for a New Year trifecta, I also celebrate a made-up one in April (that's not true... or is it?!)
My point is, I'm going to reflect on this last year and I'd like to point out that I'm reflecting from the December New Year, not the September New Year or my made-up April New Year.
It's all just so confusing.
Anyway, this last year has been nothing but good to us at Break a Leg. I believe it was early last year that we released Episode 2 -- we had a website made entirely out of Flash. And while Vlad made it and it was cool theoretically, he never explained to any of us how to use it, so I couldn't update the blog, upload videos or really do much of anything, so we used MySpace, which served us well enough and still does when we're not getting adds from people who want us to check out their webcams.
We were also getting, consistently, around 400-500 views and we weren't releasing anything weekly, it was just the episodes. Some of our fans may remember this time. It was a darker time. A younger time. A time where YouTube pretended we didn't exist and we had to beg and plead to get a blog to do a write-up about us.
Episode 2 did a lot for us. Where Episode 1, we got a lot of, "This is great but it's never going to work on the Internet," Episode 2 got more of, "This is revolutionary, a sitcom on the Internet!" It got a good amount of views but still not as many as we wanted. What it did get is Paul Colligan, an internet money-making guru, to do a write-up on us. After he did one, Michael from ForYourImagination did one as well. For Your Imagination was just starting at that point, they had formed like some sort of bacteria to take over the world.
When they wrote about us, I had no idea who they were or what they did -- I just wrote them a thank you, and they emailed me saying they like the show. We talked further -- they were a marketing company with one real client at that point, Mr. Patrice Oneal. We talked more. And, because Paul, the CEO, has a likeable face and a voice like smooth silk, we signed with them.
Paul came down to visit and bought us sushi -- that sealed him our hearts forever.
What has happened since? The signing happened sometime in July. For Your Imagination made us a very interactive website and told us to release something, ANYTHING, every week.
It's been a few months, and our website views have tripled, YouTube is our friend and features us almost regularly (thanks YouTube!) and Episode 3 has over 600,000 cumulative views -- just on YouTube. In general, our regular views have went up from around 300-400 to 4000-5000 on Blip.TV (our website) and 4000-5000 on YouTube -- this, by the way, is a huge difference.
We're still growing. New fans pop-up every day and we've gotten write-ups like we've never gotten before.
So that, that was last year. What's this New Year going to do for us? We're going to get this damn show on TV. You mark our words!
Have a Happy New Year guys. Thank you all the old fans who stayed with us from the time where they had to wait four months for an episode without any new content and thank you to all the new fans who comment and talk to us and keep us going. There'd be no show if there was no you.
Have a safe a New Year guys and we'll see you next week!
Oh, and yes. There WILL be a video this monday. Because that's how we roll.
