Break a Leg

Wait until you get to the bit about the dog.

You know...I started reading Confederacy of Dunces...got about half way through it, and then put it down because I just couldn't stand the characters.

I actually completely agree on Confederacy of Dunces. It's lauded as this amazing book, and it was painful to read any of it -- I hate not finishing books but I broke on this one. The characters are coooompletely unlikeable. I wasn't sure why the hell I was spending time reading it.

i never laughed out loud like the book jacket said i would, but it was amusing, at least. the end is pretty good. it ties together all of the storylines for the various characters, and most of the characters get what is coming to them.

Did you finish the Hitchhikers' Guide series Kevin?

Or have you given up?

yeah, i finished. i thought the last book wasn't as good as the rest, so it was a bit of a let down. i still loved the series, though. i haven't gotten to the salmon of doubt or dirk gently yet. i don't think they have those in my library...

I don't like the last one either, mostly because
a. it isn't very good and I thought diverged too far from the plot
&
b. wasn't intended to REALLY be the last one but he kicked the bucket and never wrote another

I could never get past the third book in that series, but I haven't tried for a while.

In other news, I just read Fight Club. It was fantastic.

I adore Chuck Palahniuk! My friends wrote a fan letter to him and he sent them back a letter, two gigantic glowing plastic amulet necklaces, a pack of fake cigarettes and a feather boa.

I just started reading Night Watch, I"m a few chapters in and it rocks, good recommend Vlad. Yet another series I'll probably get hooked on.
