Boards > David's death: An enigma wrapped in a mystery.

Yes: an enigma wrapped in a mystery and left to stew in something that looks suspiciously like borscht.

HOW will he die?

The entire show revolves around this premise but we must ask ourselves: What will be the final cause of his untimely demise? Having scorned a dangerously unstable sewer-dwelling, goat-themed, childstar? The unforseen repercussions of an outrageous attempt to gain Chase his job back? A Grapenuts-related catastrophe?

That's just the thing: so many options, so many possibilies, none able to be ruled out for being "too rediculous."

So, my Break a Leggers, post your theories here!

Is David in fact a cruel and calculating cyborg, uncapable of death?

Will he be able to escape his seemingly imminent demise at the last minute using a form of jujitsu known only to witty writers whose physique closely resembles Woody Allen?

That is up to you, and me, the viewers, and we'd all like to know what you think.

GO!

I think he will fall through a blue portal into another world were a tall fellow in a brown robe will chop him in half with a halberd.

This is an amazing question.
And I will think up an amazing theory.
But these things take time.

I think Groomates will become the a hit! And there competitors will grow jealous and kill David like they killed the Swamblers writer. But not before threatening him to take it off the air. Watch the Pilot again and this will all make much more sense.

Interesting guess, Mackie. Anyone else?

I think it was Sebastien or Jennifer who has David killed, under Andy Corvell's orders.
Everyone's figured out that Larry was a hitman by now, and he was originally hired by Andy to be David's "bodyguard".
That's him with the gun in that scene where David is about to [possibly] die.
I have no idea what they asked him to do, but David pretty much sold out already, so it would have to be pretty extreme for him to turn it down, unless he has a change of heart in episode three.
Actually, I'm guessing he will, because he realized that he was a sellout in episode two, and since episode three is going to be more "adventure-y", he probably redeems himself by doing something AWESOME to get Chase Cougar back on the show.
I've rambled into this theory, just because I think it should be Chase Cougar who heroically breaks the door down, and saves David's life in some sort of kick-ass fashion.
Wow. I've put WAY too much thought into this.
You guys should hire me.

Personally, I think Groommates is going to become a runaway hit with Jennifer John Bradley in the driver's seat and Amber Turnipseed as the hood ornament. David Penn will be in the trunk. Then Jennifer will take the show in some radical, though not necessarily positive, direction and the network will have to fight tooth and nail to try and wrest control back from the mad director while David Penn tries desperately just to hold on for his own dear little Jewish life. CNC will resort to coercing and black mailing Penn, which we've already proven is no difficult task. But David will fail in his task because not only is he up against the awesome cunning of Jennifer John Bradley (or rather what Jennifer calls "awesome cunning" but most other people would simply call "wildly unpredictable and not just a little insane"), but David, aside from being easily coerced, is still wet behind the ears and has no hope of survival when caught between the muscle of Andy Corvell and a mind like Jennifer's.

That's not at all close, Jennifer. Not at all.

Well, except you got our character names right, so. You know, a little bit.

September 6, 2007 | Registered CommenterBreak a Leg

Of course it's not even close! You don't respect real genius around here! I'll be in my trailor!

He's not actually going to die. This is a comedy, right?

October 17, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterSeun Osewa

people die in comedies, too, right?

October 17, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterKevin

We said when we started shooting Break a Leg that it was, very much, a dark comedy. David aside, people WILL die in Break a Leg. Have no doubt about that.

It'll be funny though.

October 17, 2007 | Registered CommenterBreak a Leg

Riight, as funny as watching ants carry away a well-planned romantic picnic while the apocalypse happens??

Exactly!

Nice BNl reference. At least I think it was anyway.
